This message was emphasized at a joint press conference held by the Department of Automotive Technologies at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and Magyar K\u00f6z\u00fat Nonprofit Zrt.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"1232\">Experts at the event presented a range of BME developments carried out within the soon-to-be-completed <strong data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"821\">National Laboratory for Autonomous Systems<\/strong> project, several of which have already drawn significant international industrial and academic interest. Among the most remarkable is the digital system built on the shared section of the <strong data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1028\">M1\u2013M7 motorway<\/strong> in cooperation with Magyar K\u00f6z\u00fat. This world-class development not only represents a breakthrough in intelligent infrastructure but also provides a unique testing environment for automotive innovators.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1323\"><strong data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1249\">B\u00e1lint Nagy<\/strong>, State Secretary at the Ministry of Construction and Transport, stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1879\">\n<p data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1879\">\u201cI consider this project a major milestone in Hungarian transport research. The long-standing cooperation between BME\u2019s Department of Automotive Technologies and Magyar K\u00f6z\u00fat has resulted in one of the most intelligent motorway sections in the world. Such initiatives benefit the national economy and strongly support the training and recruitment of future engineers. He concluded:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2757\" data-end=\"3091\">\n<p data-start=\"2759\" data-end=\"3091\">\u201cI am convinced that the future of safe and efficient transport will be defined by the cooperation of intelligent vehicles and intelligent infrastructure. These sensors continuously monitor traffic on both sides of the carriageway and transmit the resulting information to a supercomputer located at the company\u2019s data center.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3984\" data-end=\"4394\">Researchers at BME\u2019s Department of Automotive Technologies calibrated the installed instruments\u2014radars, LIDAR units, thermal cameras, and optical cameras with various fields of view\u2014and developed AI-based models that now generate a complete <strong data-start=\"4225\" data-end=\"4241\">digital twin<\/strong> of the monitored road segment. In this real-time environment, every object and every vehicle on the motorway is represented with exceptional accuracy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4396\" data-end=\"4919\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">This digital twin can provide road users with information that individual vehicle sensors cannot capture due to limited range or line-of-sight constraints. It can also supply data to driver-assistance or autonomous driving systems for testing in a live yet virtually risk-free setting.
