The international consortium \u2014 comprising six Hungarian and six Austrian partners \u2014 developed cutting-edge technological solutions that open new horizons in testing and developing autonomous mobility systems.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-1-1030x824.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1030\" height=\"824\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-9039\" srcset=\"https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-1-1030x824.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-1-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-1-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-1-1536x1229.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-1.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Launched in September 2021, the project presented its final results in October 2025 at BME\u2019s Stoczek Street building. The closing event was opened by <strong>Dr. Zsolt Szalay<\/strong>, Head of the Department of Automotive Technologies, followed by presentations from <strong>Dr. Andr\u00e1s R\u00f6vid (BME)<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. Arno Eichberger (TU Graz)<\/strong>, who outlined the project\u2019s main objectives and milestones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Next Generation of Smart Roads<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the project was the development of a <strong>centralized system<\/strong> supporting the testing and control of connected and automated vehicles. The system, created by BME\u2019s research team, generates a <strong>real-time, high-precision digital twin<\/strong> from roadside sensor data, capable of mapping the movements of both vehicles and their environment.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most striking achievements was the <strong>smart road segment built along the shared section of Hungary\u2019s M1\u2013M7 motorways<\/strong>. Based on its digital twin model, BME researchers also developed a <strong>mobile application<\/strong> that provides vehicles without onboard sensors with real-time traffic and environmental information \u2014 such as lane positioning, surrounding vehicle movements, and static object locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project\u2019s key significance lies in creating the next generation of smart roads and demonstrating their potential in developing and testing connected and automated vehicles. We also validated our results through real-world demonstrations with our partners,\u201d emphasized <strong>Dr. Andr\u00e1s R\u00f6vid<\/strong>, the project\u2019s technical lead and researcher at BME Automated Drive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cloud-Based Vehicle Control and Mixed-Reality Testing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Together with experts from <strong>TU Wien<\/strong>, <strong>STARD<\/strong>, and <strong>Virtual Vehicle<\/strong>, the BME team developed <strong>cloud-based vehicle control and trajectory planning solutions<\/strong> that enable centralized driving control and teleoperation at speeds of up to 90 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Another innovation was the <strong>mixed-reality testing as a service<\/strong> concept, which allows virtual objects to be integrated into real-world test environments \u2014 with vehicles responding to them as if they were real. With the contribution of <strong>TU Graz<\/strong>, researchers also implemented real-time integration of actual traffic data into simulation environments, allowing for even more realistic testing conditions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-2-1030x687.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1030\" height=\"687\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-9043\" srcset=\"https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-2-1030x687.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/auto.bme.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/EUREKA-2.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1030px) 100vw, 1030px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Extensive Industrial Collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hungarian project partners included <strong>Robert Bosch Kft., Magyar K\u00f6z\u00fat Nonprofit Zrt., Budapest K\u00f6z\u00fat Zrt., Magyar Telekom Nyrt.,<\/strong> and <strong>Bimfra Kft.<\/strong><br \/>\nOn the Austrian side, participants included <strong>TU Graz, TU Wien, Joanneum Research, Tom Robotics, STARD,<\/strong> and <strong>Virtual Vehicle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Magyar K\u00f6z\u00fat was responsible for establishing the sensor infrastructure along the M1\u2013M7 motorway section. Bosch defined the system requirements, validated the smart road using drone-based methods, and integrated advanced driver assistance functions into the central control system.
