Postgraduate Specialist Programme in Transportation Forensic Engineering
Expert Knowledge in Traffic Accident Analysis and Vehicle Investigation
The Postgraduate Specialist Training Programme in Transportation Technical Expertise is designed for engineers seeking advanced, specialized knowledge in traffic accident analysis, vehicle inspection, vehicle damage assessment, and transportation forensic engineering.
The programme focuses on understanding the technical background of road traffic incidents, analysing accident mechanisms, applying modern investigation and simulation methods, and developing the analytical mindset required for expert witness activities. Participants not only learn to use established tools and methodologies but also develop the ability to independently analyse and evaluate complex cases using sound engineering principles.
The knowledge acquired during the programme can be applied in transportation engineering, forensic engineering, judicial expert work, governmental authorities, insurance companies, and vehicle inspection and assessment.
Professional Qualification and Career Opportunities
One of the programme’s greatest strengths is that, upon successful completion and subject to the additional requirements prescribed by Hungarian legislation, graduates become eligible to act as full members of the Hungarian Chamber of Judicial Experts in the field of transportation engineering expertise.
The programme therefore represents not only an opportunity to acquire advanced professional knowledge, but also an important step toward a highly respected and rewarding expert career.
What Will You Learn?
The curriculum combines theoretical foundations with practical methods required for transportation technical expert activities.
Main subject areas include:
- Technical analysis of road traffic accidents
- Accident scene investigation and data processing
- Vehicle damage assessment and claims analysis
- Vehicle inspection and examination
- Photogrammetry
- Technical aspects of personal injuries
- Traffic engineering
- Preparation of expert opinions
- Simulation techniques and digital investigation methods
Throughout the programme, particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of real-life cases, engineering problem-solving, and the development of professional expert judgement.
Who Should Apply?
The programme is intended primarily for engineers who wish to expand or deepen their expertise in the field of transportation technical expertise and forensic engineering.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or an equivalent university degree under the previous higher education system) in one of the following disciplines:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Vehicle Engineering
- Transportation Engineering
Programme Structure
- Programme type: Postgraduate Specialist Training Programme
- Study mode: Part-time
- Duration: 4 semesters
- Completion: Master’s thesis and final examination
- Schedule: One teaching day per week during the academic semester
The curriculum gradually progresses from fundamental engineering and legal subjects to advanced courses in accident analysis and expert witness practice, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the transportation technical expert profession.
Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded the Postgraduate Specialist Qualification in Transportation Technical Expertise.
Tuition Fee
The programme is offered on a self-financed basis.
Previous intakes have required tuition fees in the range of several hundred thousand Hungarian forints per semester. The exact tuition fee for the next intake will be announced when the programme is officially launched and is expected to remain broadly in line with previous years, adjusted to reflect current economic conditions.
When Will the Next Programme Start?
The current cohort is still in progress; therefore, the next intake is expected to begin no earlier than September 2027.
The launch of a new cohort depends on the number of applicants. A new programme will be started once sufficient interest has been received to ensure the high academic standards of the programme.
For this reason, we are currently accepting expressions of interest rather than formal applications.
Would You Like to Be Notified?
If you are seriously considering joining the programme, we encourage you to register your interest now.
Submitting an expression of interest does not constitute a formal application or create any obligation. It simply allows us to notify you directly as soon as the next cohort reaches the required number of participants and official applications open.
